What did you think? – The Crimson Horror – Meeting tonight Sunday 5th May 2013

What did you think of last night’s episode, The Crimson Horror?

Spooky spectacular or horrific horror?
Join us tonight at the Glasgow Doctor Who Society as we discuss the episode, you can find a link to our meetup group here – http://meetu.ps/vR33v

To get discussions going here’s my thoughts of last night’s episode from my own video blog

My name is David Cherry and I’ve been a member of the society since 2009. I run a media production company on the southside of Glasgow and I’m the media co-ordinator for the Glasgow Doctor Who Society.

The Cold War – Meeting & Member Vlog Review

Hello everyone!

David, here.

Did you enjoy last night’s episode, ‘Cold War‘?

The return of the Ice Warriors! David Warner! Liam Cunningham!

Here’s the immediate reaction last night from myself and my younger brother Stuart, just after watching the episode last night.

What do you think? Did you do a video blog review? Let us know and we’ll showcase your video blog here on the Glasgow Doctor Who Society website!

The Ice Warriors first appeared in Doctor Who in 1967 in the Second Doctor story ‘The Ice Warriors’ (funnily enough). They went on to appear with Patrick Troughton’s Second Doctor again in ‘The Seeds of Death’ and later appeared twice with Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor.

Last night was their first appearance on the show in nearly 40 years, although they’ve been kept alive in additional literature and Big Finish releases.

Here’s a clip from their first story –

Join us in the next couple of days for the next Glasgow Doctor Who Society video blog, where you’ll see what everyone thinks about the episode and what we got up to at the meeting tonight!

If you’d like to appear in the video blog, or simply come and join the discussions, you can join us tonight at the Crystal Palace pub on Jamaica Street in Glasgow city centre.

You can follow us on twitter for our latest updates and get involved with the discussion –

The Glasgow Doctor Who Society vs BBC2’s Eggheads!

Yesterday, a team from the Glasgow Doctor Who Society filmed an episode of the popular BBC2 quiz show, Eggheads.

There’s no guarantee that our episode will make it to air but, if it does, it will hopefully hit the airwaves later this year.

Did our team make omelettes out of the Eggheads? Or did they leave with egg on their faces?

We’re afraid we can’t let you know just yet! We won’t even tell you what our team name was for the competition! You’ll just have to tune in (hopefully later this year) to find out!

All we can tell you for the time being is that all of the Eggheads were absolutely lovely, as was our host, Jeremy Vine, and our team enjoyed the experience enormously. Thank you, Eggheads, for having us, and for making us feel so welcome!

To tide you over until all is revealed, here’s a little picture of our team at the studio…

Glasgow Film Festival Celebrate 50 Years of Doctor Who

We’ve just added details to our calendar (over to the right of the screen, if you hadn’t noticed it!) for a few exciting Doctor Who events coming to Glasgow in the near future as part of the Glasgow Film Festival.

Doctor Who at 50

Join Tom MacRae to celebrate Doctor Who at 50

First up, on 17 February 2013 at 15:00 there will be a chance to meet new series writer, Tom MacRae, as he picks a favourite episode to screen. The festival also hope to be able to welcome a member of the cast of the episode to the screening, too. Details are here.

This event takes place on the same day as the Glasgow Doctor Who Society’s second February meeting. So, if you are going along, why not also join us at the Crystal Palace in the evening?

Doctor Who and the Daleks

“So close, you can feel their fire!”

Second, there’s a special screening of the first 1960s Dalek movie, Doctor Who and the Daleks, on Saturday 23 February 2013 at 17:00, and another chance to see it on Sunday 24 February 2013 at 13:15.  Details of these screenings, which will take place at Cineworld Screen 16, are available here.

Daleks - Invasion Earth 2150 AD

Daleks – Invasion Earth 2150 AD!

And last, but by no means least, what would the first movie be without the chance to see the second, Daleks – Invasion Earth 2150 AD, too?! This will also take place over the weekend of 23-24 February and, if you can’t choose between the Saturday 23 February 2013 screening at 19:00 and the Sunday 24 February 2013 screening at 15:30, why not just go along for both?! Details of these screenings, also taking place at Cineworld Screen 16, are available here.

We hope to see loads of you lovely people at all three events.
