There’s still time to catch the Glasgow Doctor Who Society taking on the Eggheads on iPlayer!
The Glasgow Doctor Who Society vs The Eggheads!
But hurry! Our episode will disappear on Thursday, 30 January 2014.
The long wait is nearly over!
On Thursday 23 January 2014 at 18:00 on BBC2, you will be able to see the Glasgow Doctor Who Society team, Alan McWhan, David Cherry, Deirdre Rusling, Barry Stanton and Kenny Smith (with David Steel in reserve) taking on the Eggheads in the popular BBC quiz show.
Who will win? Or will they…?! (Sorry. Couldn’t resist the pun.)
Tune in and find out!
Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to answer our poll questions on the possibility of a Glasgow Doctor Who convention.
On the plus side, we have had more responses to the polls than we expected. There appear to be a fair number of people interested in the idea of Glasgow events and that is a very positive sign for the future.
However, from the responses we have received, any convention we may hope to organise in 2014 would be risky at best.
Attempting to match the number and type of guest attendees would expect with the price they would be willing to pay for a ticket is simply bringing us to the conclusion that, at this point in time, it would be a struggle to break even on any such event, never mind make money for our nominated charity.
Sadly, that means we will have to put the idea on hold while we continue to build the group’s numbers to the point where we are confident in being able to successfully run an event without such a high financial risk.
Thanks again for your support. Sorry we’re not quite in a position to make it happen… yet.
But who knows? Maybe 2015?
The best thing we can all do to help make an event a reality in future is to keep telling people about the group on Twitter and Facebook and, above all, keep joining in with all the fun at our regular meetings!
We hope to see you all at our regular group meetings at the Crystal Palace on Jamaica Street, from 6:30pm on the first and third Sunday of every month.
The polls below for what you would like to see in a Glasgow Doctor Who convention are now closed.
A big thank you to everyone who voted.
We are going to take a few days to analyse and discuss the results and decide whether we feel such an event would be possible.
We will, of course, let you know as soon as we make a decision!
Thanks, as always, for all your support.
The Glasgow Doctor Who Society are considering the possibility of arranging a one-day Doctor Who convention in 2014, most likely around May or June.
For the sake of clarity, we are not talking about a massive Collectormania style event – Showmasters already have that kind of thing covered brilliantly and we have neither the resources nor the desire to compete on that level.
We’re talking about a convention more along the lines of Dimensions, Regenerations or Whooverville – a more intimate affair with around a hundred or so fans.
But we need to know that the support is there before we start planning in any detail.
If the event goes ahead, it would be a one day convention and standard admission would include access to all guest talks in the main convention hall plus at least one free autograph from each guest in attendance.
With that in mind, we would really like as many people as possible to answer the following four questions for us;
Please answer all of the questions as honestly as possible – if you wouldn’t attend unless the entire cast and crew from the last 8 years are there, we need to know that! So don’t tell us that you would turn up for an Auton and a photograph of a cameraman unless you mean it!
We will hopefully have an idea whether this is going to be possible in the very near future!
Someone’s in trouble!
You’re in my spot!
Don’t worry, sheldon!
There’s always a spot for you at The Glasgow Doctor Who Society!

Last night was a brilliant night for all us here at the Glasgow Doctor Who Society!
Over 30 people joined our fantastic party as we watched the Twelfth Doctor being introduced to the nation, live on BBC1!
Here’s how the party reacted to the announcement:
I think you can tell how we felt about the choice for the Twelfth Doctor! Giving it laldy, for Peter Capaldi! Welcome aboard, Doctor 12!
Stay tuned for another Glasgow Who video in the coming days, where we’ll hear people’s thoughts straight after the announcement.
