Are you interested in a Doctor Who convention in Glasgow?

Hello, everyone!

The Glasgow Doctor Who Society are considering the possibility of arranging a one-day Doctor Who convention in 2014, most likely around May or June.

For the sake of clarity, we are notΒ talking about a massive Collectormania style event – Showmasters already have that kind of thing covered brilliantly and we have neither the resources nor the desire to compete on that level.

We’re talking about a convention more along the lines of Dimensions, Regenerations or Whooverville – a more intimate affair with around a hundred or so fans.

But we need to know that the support is there before we start planning in any detail.

If the event goes ahead, it would be a one day convention and standard admission would include access to all guest talks in the main convention hall plus at least one free autograph from each guest in attendance.

With that in mind, we would really like as many people as possible to answer the following four questions for us;

Please answer all of the questions as honestly as possible – if you wouldn’t attend unless the entire cast and crew from the last 8 years are there, we need to know that! So don’t tell us that you would turn up for an Auton and a photograph of a cameraman unless you mean it!

We will hopefully have an idea whether this is going to be possible in the very near future!

Cheers!

Special Meeting – 4 August 2013!

Hi, everyone!

Sorry we haven’t updated in a while – we’ve all been incredibly busy since the series ended!

As you will probably know, the identity of the actor chosen to play the 12th Doctor will be announced in a special live TV show, Doctor Who Live! The Next Doctor, at 7:oopm on BBC1 on 4 August 2013.

Doctor Who Live!

Doctor Who Live!

As you will also know, 4 August 2013 is the next meeting for us Glasgow Doctor Who Society members!

We have therefore decided to book the Family Area downstairs at the Crystal Palace so that we can watch the show live at the meeting!

We will be meeting slightly earlier than usual – 6:00pm – in order to have a quick chat before the show starts.

Hope loads of you can make it for what is bound to be a very special event for all Doctor Who fans!

Just remember – we will be downstairs for this one meeting, and it starts at 6:00pm instead of 7:00pm! Wouldn’t want anyone to miss out!

Cheers!

The Glasgow Doctor Who Society vs BBC2’s Eggheads!

Yesterday, a team from the Glasgow Doctor Who Society filmed an episode of the popular BBC2 quiz show, Eggheads.

There’s no guarantee that our episode will make it to air but, if it does, it will hopefully hit the airwaves later this year.

Did our team make omelettes out of the Eggheads? Or did they leave with egg on their faces?

We’re afraid we can’t let you know just yet! We won’t even tell you what our team name was for the competition! You’ll just have to tune in (hopefully later this year) to find out!

All we can tell you for the time being is that all of the Eggheads were absolutely lovely, as was our host, Jeremy Vine, and our team enjoyed the experience enormously. Thank you, Eggheads, for having us, and for making us feel so welcome!

To tide you over until all is revealed, here’s a little picture of our team at the studio…

20 January 2013 Meeting

The second meeting of the year for the Glasgow Doctor Who Society was a bundle of laughs!

Thanks to everyone for coming along, particularly our two newest members, Ciaran and Helene!

See you there!

Glasgow Film Festival Celebrate 50 Years of Doctor Who

We’ve just added details to our calendar (over to the right of the screen, if you hadn’t noticed it!) for a few exciting Doctor Who events coming to Glasgow in the near future as part of the Glasgow Film Festival.

Doctor Who at 50

Join Tom MacRae to celebrate Doctor Who at 50

First up, on 17 February 2013 at 15:00 there will be a chance to meet new series writer, Tom MacRae, as he picks a favourite episode to screen. The festival also hope to be able to welcome a member of the cast of the episode to the screening, too. Details are here.

This event takes place on the same day as the Glasgow Doctor Who Society’s second February meeting. So, if you are going along, why not also join us at the Crystal Palace in the evening?

Doctor Who and the Daleks

“So close, you can feel their fire!”

Second, there’s a special screening of the first 1960s Dalek movie, Doctor Who and the Daleks, on Saturday 23 February 2013 at 17:00, and another chance to see it on Sunday 24 February 2013 at 13:15.Β  Details of these screenings, which will take place at Cineworld Screen 16, are available here.

Daleks - Invasion Earth 2150 AD

Daleks – Invasion Earth 2150 AD!

And last, but by no means least, what would the first movie be without the chance to see the second, Daleks – Invasion Earth 2150 AD, too?! This will also take place over the weekend of 23-24 February and, if you can’t choose between the Saturday 23 February 2013 screening at 19:00 and the Sunday 24 February 2013 screening at 15:30, why not just go along for both?! Details of these screenings, also taking place at Cineworld Screen 16, are available here.

We hope to see loads of you lovely people at all three events.
